New Track – Come On – UhC
This is a track I did a few months ago that turned out alright. It’s got a great baseline and a groovy sample that repeats throughout the track from one of my old friends I met while breezing through Iowa. In the summer of 2002 I moved in with my uncle Tim to work at his bar that he owned in the Iowa lakes area, I moved into the infinite rehab mansion project of a house that my uncle owned and he lived in the apartment he built for himself next door. This huge house was once the town hospital it was so big and I could tell a few disturbing stories about times I was in there all by myself but quickly realized I was not actually alone in that house… It was really spooky and I stayed there for about 3 months before I moved to Chicago, rarely got to sleep sober and if i did I had to keep the lights on and the floor fans whirring to drown out the noise of the old empty house, sometimes just laying there thinking of all the people that had died in that spot, or in the same room I was in… but I’ll save those details for a different post.
I started working at his bar called The Uptown Theatre, right next to the strip club, I think about the 3rd night I was there a metal/rap rock band called Unholy Congregation (UHC) graced the stage and killed it. These guys had a great stage pressence, loyal following and really just rocked. Fronted by Tory Lowe and Chad Theesfeld, BP on drums (who had one prosthetic leg and I am not lying when I say he could double kick faster than anyone I have heard)Rosy on lead guitar, and Jake on Bass, these guys would pack the bar on a regular basis. Soon they found that I was also a music addict and i started doing some dj-ing and scratching with the band and working on some Hip Hop side projects with Tory. We would spend hours in the old delapidated house just making beats, recording vocal tracks, or just spinning records getting bombed til early in the morning.
Here is a track by the band called I Run Away
I had never met a band with more drive and determination to “make it” and the chemistry they had and control of the crowd was unmatched relatively to other local bands at that time in their scene. They may disagree with me on that since the band has since split up and gone their seperate ways/switched members due to creative differences but I think each of them are doing their own side projects now. That was such an interesting time in my life as I was some how beamed from being a House/Techno DJ and nightclub promoter in Minneapolis and injected into the local rock scene in a small Iowa community. That has kind of stayed consistant with each new local I move to, wherever you are, somehow the music will find you, wether you are looking for it or not… It may just be in a different form than you are used to.
So the track is a real tech house thumper with a bassline that really drives the track, the synth stabs before the first break really ad a good dynamic to the track, let me know what you think.
