Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Everybody Loves The Sunshine
Roy Ayers Ubiquity’s album Everybody Loves The Sunshine first came to my attention through old Chicago House remixes of his signature and title track of the same name. The track has been sampled over and over on several tunes of all genres ranging from house to Hip-Hop. Ayers, most famous for his skills as a vibraphonist delivers a solid funky baseline workout on almost every track. Funky synth whines pepper almost every track and if you haven’t heard the album before you will quickly begin to feel like you have from all the songs you probably currently have in your collection that have sampled this album. The album production consists of 6 key players other than Roy. Roy is featured on lead vocals, vibes, percussion, and piano, Chicas the lone female on the album delivers powerful soul filled vocals up front with Roy. Philip Woo on piano and strings, Chano Oferal on congas and vocals, Ronald “Head” Drayton on guitar, Doug Rhodes on drums, and John “Shaun” Solomon on bass.
The Album, released on Polydor in 1976, is an enticing hybrid of pre-commercial disco and 70′s funk. Roy in later years moved towards more R&B and thats what makes this particular album so good in my eyes. Go out and buy it! Quick! before the summer is over! or if you already bought it and its scratched, download it here.
